The Quad, UCC
A Gothic Revival
The Main Quadrangle (The Quad) is the historic and architectural centrepiece of University College Cork (UCC). The university itself was established in 1845 as one of Ireland’s three original Queen’s Colleges.
The Quad was masterfully designed by the renowned architect Sir Thomas Deane in the magnificent Gothic Revival style. Its distinctive features include pointed arches, lancet windows, and intricate stone carvings. Construction started in the mid-19th century, with the earliest buildings completed in the 1850s.
With its charming cloistered walkways and lush green space, The Quad stands today as a powerful symbol of UCC’s long history and its enduring commitment to both preserving its heritage and providing a vibrant centre of learning and research.
