St. Patrick’s Bridge

St. Patrick’s Bridge is one of the most recognizable and enduring landmarks in Cork City, gracefully spanning the River Lee. It is a vital artery connecting the northern and southern parts of the city centre. The original bridge was sadly washed away by a major flood in 1853. The current, elegant structure was designed by engineer Sir John Benson and completed in 1861. Its graceful stonework features fine granite voussoirs and keystones, demonstrating the high standard of Victorian civic engineering.

Often bustling with traffic and pedestrians, St. Patrick’s Bridge remains a central point in Cork’s daily life, serving as both a functional crossing and a beautiful piece of the city’s built heritage.
