St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral

Gothic Grandeur in Cork

St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral is a spectacular landmark and the spiritual heart of Cork City, located on the site traditionally associated with the monastery founded by St. Fin Barre, Cork’s patron saint, in the 7th century. The current cathedral is a masterpiece of the French Gothic Revival style, designed by the celebrated Victorian architect William Burges. Consecrated in 1870, it is renowned for its three magnificent spires, intricate stone carving, and over 1,260 individual pieces of stained glass, making it one of the finest examples of 19th-century architecture in Ireland.

Visitors are drawn to its richly decorated interior, the famed Golden Angel on the roof, and the impressive scale that dominates the cityscape, serving as a powerful monument to faith and artistry.
